Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates Superstar Makes Return to South Africa

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates winger William Twala has returned to South Africa as he searches for a new team to continue his professional football journey. The 36-year-old attacking player is looking for opportunities to step back into the domestic scene after spending the last few seasons building experience in leagues across Asia.

Twala, who was born in Soweto, carries a wealth of experience in South African football. Over the years, he has built an extensive career in the top flight, featuring for major clubs such as Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs,Chippa United, Golden Arrows, and Maritzburg United. Wearing the shirts of both Soweto giants remains one of the most prominent highlights of his career, as few players get the chance to represent both sides of the country’s biggest football rivalry.

Following his time in the local league, Twala took his career overseas to gain broader playing experience. His journey took him to diverse football settings, including spells with Erbil SC in Iraq, Chittagong Abahani in Bangladesh, and a stint in India. Those foreign assignments allowed him to adapt to different playing styles and remain active at the professional level.

Now back on home soil, the former Bafana Bafana international is open to joining a project where he can contribute on the pitch. While his age may make some top-flight clubs hesitant, his deep understanding of the local game, tactical versatility, and leadership skills make him a practical option for teams seeking depth in their attacking setup. Twala has previously expressed a willingness to consider offers from both the Betway Premiership and the second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship, focusing primarily on finding the right environment where he can play regularly.

At present, no official agreement has been announced by any club, and Twala remains a free agent. However, his availability presents an intriguing option for teams looking to add proven experience to their squad during the transfer window. The upcoming weeks should reveal where the veteran winger will land for the next chapter of his career.
