Orlando Pirates have become the latest South African club to face possible fixture adjustments as the Premier Soccer League (PSL) works to accommodate teams participating in CAF inter-club competitions.
The Buccaneers are preparing for their CAF Champions League campaign, while Kaizer Chiefs are also dealing with a demanding schedule due to their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup. Both clubs must balance their continental ambitions with their domestic league responsibilities.
Pirates were initially scheduled to meet TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership on October 18. However, the fixture falls within the dates allocated for the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round, which is scheduled to take place between October 16 and 18. The return-leg matches are expected to be played from October 23 to 25.
The Soweto giants are preparing to take on Namibian representatives African Stars as they seek qualification for the Champions League group stage. Their involvement in the competition could create additional scheduling difficulties, particularly with the club also expected to maintain its position in the domestic title race.
Nevertheless, the final arrangements for the Pirates versus TS Galaxy encounter still require clarification, with supporters waiting for an official announcement from the PSL regarding a possible postponement or change of date.
Kaizer Chiefs are experiencing similar challenges ahead of their Confederation Cup campaign. Amakhosi will face Zambia's Red Arrows in the second preliminary round after receiving a bye in the opening stage. Their domestic schedule also includes a meeting with Stellenbosch FC at FNB Stadium on October 17.
Pirates must additionally prepare for their MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns on October 10, making their October programme particularly demanding.
