Stormers Youngster Ahmed Steals the Show as Sacha’s Advice Pays Off in Thrilling Win 🏉🔥

Young Stormers flyhalf Yaqeen Ahmed enjoyed a special moment after helping his team secure an exciting 52–40 win over the Scarlets in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

The 20-year-old came off the bench and scored two important tries in the final stages of the match at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 24 October. His performance helped the Stormers avoid dropping points after the Welsh team fought their way back into the game.

According to "SABC Sport" (https://www.sabcsport.com/rugby/news/stormers-hero-yaqeen-ahmed-credits-sacha-feinberg-mngomezulu-influence), Ahmed also spoke about the important role played by Springbok flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu in helping him during the match.

Ahmed Steps Up When His Team Needs Him

The Stormers started the game strongly and went into half-time with a 33–14 lead. However, the Scarlets refused to give up and put the home team under serious pressure in the second half.

The visitors scored several tries and managed to bring the score level at 40–40. With the game becoming more difficult, the Stormers needed someone to step up and help them finish strongly.

Ahmed answered the call. He scored his first try late in the match before adding another one to seal the victory for the Cape side.

According to the "official Stormers match report" (https://stormers.co.za/dhl-stormers-leave-scarlets-behind/), his two late tries played a major role in securing the 52–40 result.

Sacha’s Advice Makes a Difference

After the match, Ahmed explained how much it helped to have experienced players around him, especially Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

“Having those voices in my ear, like Sacha when I came on, makes such a big difference to my decision-making,” Ahmed said, as reported by "SABC Sport" (https://www.sabcsport.com/rugby/news/stormers-hero-yaqeen-ahmed-credits-sacha-feinberg-mngomezulu-influence).

The young flyhalf was happy to get an opportunity to play and show what he could do. He also admitted that the final stages were difficult because several Stormers players suffered injuries during the match.

For Ahmed, having experienced teammates guiding him made it easier to handle the pressure and focus on his job.

Learning From the Springboks

Ahmed also spoke about the chance to learn from Springbok players who train and play alongside him at the Stormers.

Players such as Feinberg-Mngomezulu and Damian Willemse have valuable international experience that can help younger players improve their game.

Ahmed explained that he wants to take in as much information as possible from these experienced players and use it to improve his performances.

This is a positive sign for the Stormers because young players need opportunities to grow, especially when competing at a high level.

What Comes Next for Ahmed?

Ahmed’s performance could help him earn more opportunities in the Stormers team. With Feinberg-Mngomezulu potentially being rested ahead of the November international matches, the youngster could have another chance to prove himself.

According to "IOL Sport" (https://iol.co.za/sport/rugby/urc/2026-10-25-stormers-youngster-yaqeen-ahmed-set-for-no-10-role-against-ulster/), Ahmed was being considered for the flyhalf role against Ulster.

However, he will still need to work hard and show consistency if he wants to become a regular choice.

For now, his match-winning performance against the Scarlets has given Stormers supporters something to celebrate. Ahmed showed that even a young player can make a big difference when the team needs him most.
