Former Chiefs Coach Sergio Dos Santos Questions Soweto Derby Officiating

Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Sergio Dos Santos has expressed his disappointment with the officiating during Saturday's Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Amakhosi.

The experienced football coach was not entirely satisfied with the decisions made by the officiating team during the highly anticipated encounter, which ended in a 2-1 victory for Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto Derby once again attracted massive attention from football supporters, with both teams entering the contest determined to secure bragging rights.

Pirates eventually claimed all three points after finding the back of the net twice, while Chiefs managed to score once in an entertaining encounter.

However, the result was not the only talking point after the final whistle, as several decisions made by the referee attracted attention.

Dos Santos shared his thoughts on the officiating, making it clear that he was unhappy with certain aspects of how the match was handled.

"I'm not gonna say the referee decided the game," the former Chiefs coach stated.

His comments suggest that although he had concerns about the officiating, he was not prepared to blame the match officials entirely for the outcome.

The Soweto Derby was a fiercely contested encounter, with emotions running high as both teams fought for control. Such matches often place enormous pressure on referees because every important decision is closely examined by supporters, players and football analysts.

For Kaizer Chiefs, the defeat was another disappointing result against their biggest rivals, while Orlando Pirates celebrated an important victory in front of their supporters.

The Buccaneers showed their attacking quality to secure the 2-1 win, extending their positive run of performances.

Meanwhile, Dos Santos' comments have added another dimension to the post-match discussions surrounding the derby.

Although he stopped short of claiming that the referee determined the result, his criticism highlights the attention that officiating decisions continue to receive in South African football.

The debate surrounding Saturday's encounter is likely to continue among supporters as both Soweto giants turn their attention to their upcoming fixtures.
