Richards Bay FC are reportedly reviewing the future of head coach Dimitar Pantev following a disappointing start to his tenure at the KwaZulu-Natal-based club.
Reports published on November 2, 2026, indicated that club management had begun discussions about the Bulgarian coach’s position, with further talks expected before a final decision is reached. However, no official announcement has been made regarding his future.
Pantev, 50, joined Richards Bay in September after Ronnie Gabriel resigned on September 21 following a poor start to the season. The Bulgarian arrived with considerable coaching experience, having worked with clubs such as Gaborone United, Simba SC and Jwaneng Galaxy. He also guided Gaborone United to the 2024–25 Botswana Premier League title.
Despite those achievements, his first three matches at Richards Bay ended in defeat. The Natal Rich Boyz suffered a 4–1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup before falling 3–1 to Sekhukhune United and Kruger United.
The team conceded 10 goals and managed just three during those encounters.
Richards Bay’s struggles have extended beyond Pantev’s initial matches. The club had failed to win any of its opening nine Betway Premiership fixtures and remained at the bottom of the standings. Six consecutive defeats across all competitions further intensified the pressure.
Pantev’s difficult introduction may partly be explained by circumstances beyond his control. Work visa delays prevented him from immediately taking charge from the touchline, while he has also highlighted the challenges of inheriting a squad assembled by another coach.
Management must now decide whether to give him more time or make another coaching change.
For now, Pantev’s future remains uncertain as Richards Bay attempt to end their losing streak and revive their struggling campaign.
