HELL BREAKS LOOSE AT SUNDOWNS: Marcelo Allende Packs His Bags After CAF Disaster?

According to reports, Mamelodi Sundowns could face uncertainty over the future of Chilean midfielder Marcelo Allende following their disappointing elimination from the CAF Champions League. The 27-year-old is approaching the final months of his current contract, and there has been no public confirmation that an extension has been agreed.

The situation has raised questions about whether Sundowns will manage to retain one of their important midfielders beyond the 2026/27 season. Although speculation surrounding his future continues to grow, the club has not officially announced his departure, meaning his next move remains uncertain.

Allende joined Sundowns in July 2022 from Uruguayan side Montevideo City Torque. Since arriving at Chloorkop, he has established himself as a valuable member of the squad, contributing through his technical ability, work rate, passing accuracy and versatility in midfield.

His ability to retain possession, distribute the ball and help control the tempo of matches has made him an important option for the coaching staff. He has also been part of the team during a period in which the Pretoria-based club maintained its domestic competitiveness and pursued success in continental competitions.

Reports suggest that Allende's representatives could consider opportunities elsewhere if negotiations with Sundowns fail to produce a new agreement. Clubs in Mexico and Major League Soccer have reportedly been mentioned as possible destinations, although the extent of their interest and the existence of formal offers remain unclear.

In August, Allende addressed questions about his contractual situation, indicating that his immediate attention was on fulfilling his responsibilities during his final contracted season. He also explained that discussions about an extension had not yet taken place at that stage.

The midfielder's comments highlighted his focus on contributing to the team while leaving his longer-term future open. With no publicly confirmed agreement, speculation about his next move is likely to continue as the season progresses.

Sundowns' recent CAF Champions League elimination has added further pressure on the club to assess its squad and plan for the future. However, there is no confirmed evidence that the continental setback is directly connected to Allende's contract situation.

For Sundowns, retaining the Chilean could be important as the club seeks to maintain its midfield quality and compete for major honours. Losing him would require careful planning to find a suitable replacement capable of matching his experience and contribution.

For now, Allende's exit remains a possibility rather than a confirmed decision. The coming months could determine whether he extends his stay at Chloorkop or pursues a new challenge elsewhere.
