USM Alger head coach Lamine N'Diaye has expressed confidence in his team's ability to cause an upset when they face Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Super Cup final on November 8.
The Algerian side are preparing for a difficult encounter against the South African giants, who will enter the contest with their reputation as one of the leading clubs on the African continent.
Despite recognising the quality and strength of the Brazilians, N'Diaye believes football remains unpredictable and insists his players have every reason to approach the final with confidence.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated showdown, the USM Alger coach acknowledged the difficult challenge awaiting his team, describing Sundowns as Africa's best club based on their continental standing.
"We will be facing the best club in Africa. You only have to look at their ranking to understand that our task will not be easy," N'Diaye admitted.
However, the experienced tactician was quick to remind everyone that football does not always follow expectations. He believes USM Alger can take advantage of their opportunity and produce a result that would surprise many observers.
"However, football is not an exact science. We will therefore try to cause a surprise and pull off a major result," he added.
His comments suggest that USM Alger are not travelling into the final simply to participate. The Algerian outfit will be determined to compete against Sundowns and challenge for another continental honour.
For Mamelodi Sundowns, the encounter represents another opportunity to demonstrate their quality on the African stage. Miguel Cardoso's men will be expected to use their experience and attacking strength to overcome a team that will be highly motivated to make history.
The Brazilians have built a reputation for dominating possession and controlling matches, but they will need to remain disciplined against an opponent capable of making life difficult for them.
USM Alger, meanwhile, will be hoping their determination and tactical organisation can help them overcome the challenge posed by the South African champions.
The CAF Super Cup is a prestigious continental competition that brings together the winners of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
With both teams eager to add another major trophy to their collections, supporters can expect an intriguing battle between two clubs with continental ambitions.
The final is scheduled for November 8, with Sundowns aiming to claim the trophy and USM Alger hoping to produce the surprise their coach has promised.
All eyes will now be on the showdown as Cardoso's Sundowns prepare to face N'Diaye's determined Algerian side.
