Former Orlando Pirates playmaker Relebohile Mofokeng is reportedly attracting interest from two European clubs, with German side Bayer Leverkusen and French outfit Lille said to be monitoring his situation.
The South African attacker has continued to attract attention following his move to Belgian club Royal Union SG, where he is working to establish himself in European football.
According to transfer reports, both Bayer Leverkusen and Lille are interested in securing his services as they continue to assess his performances ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Mofokeng's growing reputation in European football is another positive development for South African football, particularly considering how much attention he attracted during his time at Orlando Pirates.
The talented youngster developed through the Buccaneers' development system before becoming one of the club's exciting attacking players. His creativity, dribbling ability, vision and confidence on the ball made him an important figure in the Pirates squad.
His performances eventually opened the door for a move to Europe, where he joined Royal Union SG in July 2026.
Since arriving in Belgium, Mofokeng has been working towards adapting to a different style of football while gaining valuable experience against European opposition. His versatility also gives his current club different attacking options, as he can operate in several positions across the forward line.
The reported interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Lille suggests that his progress is attracting attention from clubs in some of Europe's competitive leagues.
Bayer Leverkusen are among the established teams in German football and have built a reputation for identifying and developing talented players. Lille, meanwhile, have also remained competitive in France and regularly look for players capable of strengthening their squad.
For Mofokeng, the reported interest could represent another important opportunity in his career. However, attracting attention from these clubs does not necessarily mean a transfer is close.
Royal Union SG will also have an important say in any potential move, particularly if either club decides to make an official approach.
For now, the former Orlando Pirates star will be focused on maintaining his performances and continuing his development in Belgium.
Pirates supporters will certainly be proud to see a player who emerged from their development system attracting attention from established European clubs.
If the reported interest develops further, Mofokeng could become one of the South African footballers to watch during the upcoming transfer window.
