Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane continued his positive coaching journey in Botswana after guiding Mochudi Centre Chiefs to an important 3-1 victory over Prisons XI Gaborone in the Botswana Premier League this past weekend.
The South African tactician, popularly known as Yeye, recorded his fourth victory of the season as his team continued to make progress under his leadership. The result also helped Mochudi Centre Chiefs move up to fourth place on the league table with 13 points after eight matches.
Letsholonyane joined the Botswana side, also known as Maaparankwe, in September 2026 and made an encouraging start to his coaching job. His first two matches ended in victories, with Chiefs defeating Enesia and Botswana football giants Township Rollers by identical 2-1 scorelines.
The former Bafana Bafana international then continued his winning run by guiding the team to another victory in the African Hero Top 8 competition. Mochudi Centre Chiefs defeated Morupule Wanderers 3-1 at the National Stadium in Gaborone to book their place in the semi-finals.
That result gave Yeye three consecutive victories since joining the club and raised expectations among the supporters. However, his team's winning run eventually came to an end when they suffered a narrow 1-0 home defeat against Jwaneng Galaxy.
Despite that setback, Letsholonyane's charges showed a positive response when they returned to action against Prisons XI on Saturday. They managed to secure an important away victory against opponents who have struggled to collect points this season.
Prisons XI have won only one league match during the current campaign and are sitting in 15th place on the standings. However, Mochudi Centre Chiefs still had to work for the three points after the home side managed to get back into the match following the opening goal.
Mpho Kgaswane gave Yeye's team the advantage in the 20th minute, but Prisons XI responded by finding an equaliser. The match remained competitive until the visitors managed to restore their lead through Kelvin Ndebele in the 77th minute.
Nicolas Melgarejo then made sure of the victory when he scored in the 80th minute, giving Mochudi Centre Chiefs a two-goal advantage and securing the 3-1 result.
The victory was another important moment in Letsholonyane's coaching career as he continues to build his reputation outside South Africa. Having previously enjoyed a successful playing career, the former midfielder is now working to establish himself on the coaching side of football.
His attention will now turn to the next league assignment against BDF XI on Wednesday, 4 November, at the VTM Arena. BDF XI are currently bottom of the table in 16th place, and Yeye will be hoping his team can produce another strong performance and collect maximum points.
