The Premier Soccer League has confirmed that all seven Betway Premiership fixtures scheduled for Wednesday, 4 November have been postponed, after the day was declared a public holiday for South Africa’s Local Government Elections. The decision means a full round of midweek action will now be rescheduled, with new dates to be communicated in due course.
Affected by the move are: Chippa United vs Sekhukhune United, Golden Arrows vs Marumo Gallants, Kaizer Chiefs vs AmaZulu, Polokwane City vs Kruger United, Richards Bay vs Stellenbosch FC, Siwelele FC vs Orlando Pirates, and TS Galaxy vs Durban City. Only Mamelodi Sundowns and Milford FC were not set to play on that date and remain unaffected by the change.
Fans need not wait long for top-flight football, however — the action shifts forward to this coming Friday and Saturday, 30 and 31 October, when the big matches go ahead as planned. The standout fixture is undoubtedly the Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 15:30 kick-off. League leaders Mamelodi Sundowns are also in action, hosting Durban City at Royal Bafokeng Stadium that same evening.
With the election holiday reshaping the calendar, the PSL has assured supporters that revised dates for the postponed ties will be announced as soon as arrangements are finalised. For now, attention turns to this weekend — where bragging rights, points and momentum will all be up for grabs.
