Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Junior has given strong support to head coach Fernando Da Cruz and the technical team after the club’s early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Amakhosi were knocked out by Zambian side Red Arrows on Friday night. The two teams finished level at 1-1 on aggregate after Bradley Cross scored the only goal in the second leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The match then went to a penalty shootout, where Red Arrows won 3-2 and ended Chiefs’ African hopes for this season.
Many supporters were disappointed by the result. The club had already gone out of the MTN8 earlier this season, and pressure on the coach has been growing. But Motaung Junior moved quickly to calm the situation.
In an official club statement, he said the club fully understands the frustration felt by fans, players and staff. At the same time, he made it clear that one bad result will not change the long-term plan.
“As a Club, we would like to reaffirm our full support for, and confidence in, the Head Coach and the entire technical team,” the statement said. “They continue to have our trust as they lead the implementation of a football philosophy and development pathway that we firmly believe will bring sustainable success.”
Motaung Junior also pointed out that the club has made progress in important areas. He said setbacks are normal when a team is building something lasting, and that success comes from consistency and sticking to a clear plan.
The French coach Da Cruz took charge earlier this year. His side now turns full attention to domestic competitions. Next up is a Carling Knockout clash against TS Galaxy, followed by the big Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
For Chiefs fans, the message from the top is clear. The club is standing behind the coach and the project. While the Confederation Cup exit hurts, the leadership believes better days are coming if everyone stays patient and works together.
It is a show of unity at a difficult time. Whether the results improve soon will decide how long that support lasts, but for now the Amakhosi hierarchy is firmly behind Da Cruz and his team.
