Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of his team's performance despite their 3-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout Cup on Tuesday night.

The Buccaneers secured a comfortable result, but Ouaddou believes his players must improve their decision-making and teamwork as they prepare for the upcoming Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

Despite scoring three goals, the Pirates coach was concerned about situations in which his players prioritised individual efforts over better opportunities to involve their teammates. He wants the squad to demonstrate greater awareness in the attacking third and make decisions that benefit the team.

Ouaddou stressed that Orlando Pirates must maintain high standards if they intend to compete for major trophies this season. Winning matches is important, but the coach believes the players must also show consistency, discipline and efficiency throughout their performances.

The Moroccan tactician has ambitious objectives for the club, including challenging for the Betway Premiership title and competing successfully in the CAF Champions League. He believes the team will need to improve certain aspects of its play to achieve those targets.

His criticism comes at a crucial time, with Pirates preparing to face their long-standing rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, in one of South African football's biggest fixtures.

The Soweto Derby carries significant importance for both teams and their supporters, with victory offering more than just three points or progression in a competition. It is also an opportunity to establish bragging rights over their fiercest rivals.

Ouaddou will now expect his players to address the weaknesses identified against Marumo Gallants before taking on Chiefs. Better communication, improved decision-making and greater collective responsibility could prove important in determining the outcome of the encounter.

Although the 3-0 victory was a positive result for Pirates, the coach's reaction suggests that he wants more from his squad as the season progresses.
