Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has reportedly returned to football by joining the Hollywoodbets Regional League. The move ends a long spell without a professional club, which lasted about 18 months.
Sithebe first became a familiar name in the Premier Soccer League during his time at AmaZulu. There he built a reputation as a hard-working midfielder who could contribute in different areas of the pitch. His performances earned him a move to Kaizer Chiefs in 2022, giving him the chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the country.
His stay at Naturena was not easy. Competition for places, injuries and changes within the team made it hard for him to hold down a regular starting spot. He made several appearances during his two seasons with Amakhosi and left when his contract expired in 2024. He then joined Richards Bay, hoping to revive his career and keep playing in the top flight.
After that, he went more than a year without a professional club. That can be a tough period for any footballer, especially one who has played in front of big crowds and under heavy pressure.
The Hollywoodbets Regional League gives players a place to keep playing, stay fit and show what they can do. For Sithebe, it could be a chance to rebuild his confidence and perhaps attract interest from clubs at a higher level. It is not yet clear whether this move will lead to another opportunity in the professional ranks.
His first task will be to regain match sharpness and help his new side. His technical ability and experience of the professional game could be valuable to his team. Supporters who followed him at AmaZulu and Chiefs will be keen to see how he performs after such a long break.
His story is a reminder of how unpredictable football can be. Careers can take unexpected turns, and opportunities sometimes appear far from the spotlight of the professional game.
