Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is set for a return to the dugout after being linked with a move to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, just months after his departure from Raja Athletic Club.
The Tunisian tactician has arrived in Casablanca as arrangements for his appointment at Wydad move towards completion. His return to management follows the club’s decision to part ways with Portuguese coach Paulo Sérgio after a disappointing start to the new campaign.
Nabi’s expected appointment represents another opportunity for the experienced coach to establish himself in Moroccan football, where he previously worked with AS FAR Rabat and Raja Casablanca.
The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor is familiar with the demands of coaching major clubs on the continent. During his time at AS FAR, he guided the team to a second-place league finish and the final of Morocco’s Throne Cup.
He later joined Raja, where he oversaw seven league matches towards the end of the previous season. His spell included four victories, two draws and one defeat before his departure amid reported disagreements over recruitment and the club’s sporting direction.
Wydad, meanwhile, have been seeking a change in direction after collecting five points from their opening four league matches. The Casablanca club will hope a new coach can improve results and restore confidence among supporters.
Nabi is also expected to work with members of his preferred technical team, with strength and conditioning specialist Firas Zghal among those reported to be joining him.
For South African football followers, Nabi’s return to Morocco will attract interest because of his previous spell at Kaizer Chiefs. The Tunisian left Amakhosi in October 2025 after the two parties mutually agreed to end their professional relationship.
His next challenge will be to improve Wydad’s performances and help the club compete for domestic honours. The move also gives Nabi another opportunity to demonstrate his coaching ability at one of Morocco’s most prominent football institutions.
