Ex-Kaizer Chiefs Coach Nasreddine Nabi Lands New Job at Moroccan Giants Wydad AC
Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has secured a new managerial position after being appointed by Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, offering the Tunisian tactician another opportunity to prove his coaching abilities.
The 60-year-old’s appointment was confirmed on Friday, 23 October 2026, with Wydad handing him a contract until the end of the current season, including an option to extend the agreement. His arrival comes at a challenging time for the Casablanca-based club, who are seeking to revive their disappointing start to the 2026/27 Botola Pro campaign.
Wydad have collected five points from their opening four league matches, leaving them ninth in the standings. The club’s management will hope Nabi can improve their performances, strengthen tactical organisation and restore confidence within the squad as they attempt to climb the table.
Nabi is familiar with Moroccan football, having previously coached AS FAR Rabat during the 2023/24 campaign. He guided the club to a second-place league finish and the Moroccan Throne Cup final, demonstrating his ability to compete at a high level in the country.
His appointment is particularly intriguing because he recently left Raja Athletic Club, Wydad’s fierce city rivals. Nabi’s brief spell at Raja reportedly ended amid disagreements over recruitment and the club’s sporting direction. During his final seven league matches, he recorded four victories, two draws and one defeat.
South African football supporters will also remember Nabi for his time at Kaizer Chiefs. Appointed to help restore the Soweto giants’ competitiveness, he experienced both promising moments and difficult periods before his departure in October 2025.
Now, Nabi faces another demanding challenge at one of Morocco’s most recognisable clubs. Wydad supporters will expect an immediate improvement in results, while the coach must quickly establish his methods and build a winning team.
His success could determine whether Wydad recover their domestic ambitions and whether Nabi earns a longer stay at the club beyond the current season.
