Kaizer Chiefs striker Flavio Silva is set to travel to Morocco next week after receiving a call-up to the Guinea-Bissau national team for their upcoming international fixtures.
The confirmation of his selection by Guinea-Bissau head coach Emiliano Té means the Chiefs forward will have another opportunity to represent his country as they continue their campaign in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Guinea-Bissau are scheduled to face Madagascar in a two-legged qualifying encounter, with the first meeting taking place in Rabat, Morocco, on November 12. The return fixture is scheduled for November 17 in Bissau.
The decision to stage the first encounter in Morocco is understood to be linked to Madagascar's lack of a stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for international matches.
For Silva, the latest call-up represents an important opportunity to regain momentum at international level after missing the previous FIFA international window because of an injury setback.
The striker made his Guinea-Bissau debut in March and will be hoping to make a meaningful contribution when he joins his national teammates for the upcoming qualifiers.
His selection also comes at a time when he has been working to establish himself at Kaizer Chiefs. The forward has experienced an interrupted campaign at Naturena, with injuries and limited playing opportunities affecting his involvement in the team's matches.
Silva has managed just one goal for Amakhosi this season, and his recent appearances have largely been limited to shorter periods on the pitch.
Despite his struggles for regular minutes at club level, Guinea-Bissau's technical team have continued to show confidence in his abilities by including him in the final squad.
The international assignment could provide Silva with valuable playing time and an opportunity to build confidence ahead of his return to South African football.
His absence will also be something Kaizer Chiefs will have to manage as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures during the international break.
For now, the focus will be on Silva making the most of his opportunity with Guinea-Bissau and helping his country secure positive results against Madagascar.
