Naturena Drama: Da Cruz Finally Breaks Silence On Mshini Sidelining As Belgian Agency Move Surfaces

Da Cruz Sends Clear Message to Mshini as Kaizer Chiefs Explain Midfielder’s Lack of Game Time

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has addressed the growing questions surrounding Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s limited involvement this season, insisting that the midfielder must continue working hard if he wants to earn more opportunities in the first team.

The Amakhosi tactician has dismissed suggestions of a problem between himself and the talented playmaker, popularly known as Mshini, making it clear that competition for places remains a major factor behind the 26-year-old’s struggle for regular minutes.

Ngcobo has found opportunities difficult to come by under Da Cruz, featuring in just two matches across all competitions this season. His situation has attracted attention from supporters who believe the midfielder has the technical ability to make a meaningful contribution to the Soweto giants.

Speaking to the media in Durban, Da Cruz explained that the player’s limited involvement was not the result of a personal disagreement but rather the demands of competing for a place in a team with several options in midfield.

“Nothing happened, there is no issue with Mshini,” Da Cruz explained.

The French coach pointed to the performances of other players in Ngcobo’s position, specifically mentioning Mduduzi Shabalala as someone who has impressed and made it difficult for the former youth prospect to break into the starting line-up.

“There’s competition, there are other players who play in his position, like Shabalala, for example, he has been performing well,” the coach added.

Da Cruz also delivered a straightforward message to Ngcobo, urging him to maintain his commitment on the training ground and remain ready for whenever an opportunity presents itself.

“Mshini just needs to continue to work a lot. And if he continues to work a lot, he can hope to get his chances, as he already had against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Cup,” he said.

The comments suggest that the door remains open for Ngcobo, although he will need to convince the technical team that he deserves a more prominent role.

Ngcobo has been associated with Kaizer Chiefs since progressing through the club’s development structures before joining the senior set-up in 2017. Over the years, his vision, close control and passing ability have earned him admiration among sections of the Amakhosi faithful.

However, establishing himself as a consistent first-team regular has proved challenging, with injuries, competition and inconsistent opportunities affecting his progress.

His future has also attracted attention following reports that he recently joined Belgian sports agency LUPUS Sport ahead of the January transfer window. While the move has fuelled speculation about his long-term prospects at Naturena, no departure has been confirmed.

For Chiefs, the immediate priority remains building consistency and securing results across domestic and continental competitions.

Ngcobo now faces an important period in his career. With Da Cruz publicly outlining what is required, the midfielder has an opportunity to respond through his performances and fight his way back into contention.

Whether Mshini can turn the coach’s challenge into a fresh opportunity will be closely watched by Kaizer Chiefs supporters.
