Ronnie Kananelo Gets Off to Winning Start as Marumo Gallants Claim First League Victory
Marumo Gallants finally have their first Betway Premiership victory of the season after securing an entertaining 3-2 win over Siwelele FC at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Friday night.
The result marked a positive beginning for new head coach Ronnie Kananelo, who guided Bahlabane Ba Ntwa to an important three points in his first victory at the helm. The win also offered a welcome boost to a team that had been struggling to get its league campaign going.
Gallants showed attacking intent from the opening stages and needed just seven minutes to break the deadlock. Samkele Sihlali found the back of the net to give the hosts an early advantage and provide the home supporters with something to celebrate.
Siwelele, however, responded positively and restored parity in the 26th minute through Raymond Makhuvele. His goal brought the visitors back into the contest and ensured that Gallants would have to work hard to regain control.
The hosts responded six minutes later when Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo scored in the 32nd minute to put Gallants back in front. It was an important moment for Kananelo's side, who went into the break holding a narrow advantage after an eventful opening half.
Sihlali then strengthened Gallants' position shortly after the restart. The forward completed his brace in the 49th minute, extending the home side's lead and putting them in a stronger position to secure their first league victory of the campaign.
Despite falling two goals behind, Siwelele refused to surrender. Maliele Pule reduced the deficit in the 55th minute, setting up a tense closing period as the visitors searched for another equaliser.
The goal ensured that Gallants could not afford to relax. With only a one-goal advantage separating the teams, the hosts had to remain focused and protect their lead against a determined Siwelele side.
Nevertheless, Gallants managed to hold on to their advantage and secured a valuable 3-2 victory. The result brought an end to their wait for a first Betway Premiership win of the season and gave Kananelo an encouraging moment early in his tenure.
Sihlali was particularly influential, scoring twice to help his team collect all three points. Ndlondlo also made a decisive contribution with his first-half goal, while Makhuvele and Pule were on target for Siwelele.
Beyond the individual performances, the result carries significance for Gallants' position in the league standings. The three points lifted Bahlabane Ba Ntwa from the bottom of the table into 15th place, offering some relief as they look to improve their position in the coming fixtures.
For Kananelo, the victory provides a foundation on which to build. Taking charge of a team searching for its first league win comes with pressure, and Friday night's result gives the new coach an opportunity to begin shaping a more positive direction.
However, one victory does not resolve all the challenges of a difficult campaign. Gallants will need to maintain their momentum and turn this result into a consistent run of performances if they are to climb further up the standings.
For now, the focus will be on enjoying a significant breakthrough. After waiting for their first league victory, Marumo Gallants finally have something to celebrate, and Ronnie Kananelo has his first win as head coach.
