Relebohile Mofokeng is attracting positive attention at Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, with his performances demonstrating that his importance to the team goes beyond scoring goals and providing assists. Belgian football outlet Walfoot has highlighted the South African international’s influence on the club’s attacking style and overall performance.
The former Orlando Pirates forward has enjoyed a promising beginning to his career in Belgium, registering four goals and two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. His contributions have become increasingly valuable as Union deal with several absences in their attacking department.
According to Walfoot, Mofokeng has helped compensate for the departures of Promise David to Brighton and Hove Albion and Mohammed Fuseini to Derby County. The team has also experienced difficulties involving other attacking players, including Ilan Hurtevent, Kevin Rodriguez and Mateo Biondic, who have faced injuries or other setbacks.
Despite these challenges, Union have continued to produce impressive attacking numbers. The Belgian publication reported that the club had scored 27 goals in nine Pro League matches and added eight goals in three European fixtures.
Journalist Scott Crabbe praised Mofokeng for making an immediate impact rather than requiring a lengthy adjustment period. At just 21, the winger has already demonstrated his ability to contribute meaningfully to the team's performances.
Crabbe explained that the South African offers attacking qualities that statistics alone cannot fully capture. His pace, technical skills and movement provide Union with different ways to break down opposition defences.
Rather than depending exclusively on runs behind defenders, Mofokeng frequently drops deeper to receive possession and connect midfield with the attacking line. This approach helps create space for teammates and makes Union more difficult to defend against.
