Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Teko Modise has offered advice to Mamelodi Sundowns' new signing Thabang Matuludi as he prepares to compete for a place in the team's starting line-up.

Matuludi has joined the Brazilians with an opportunity to establish himself at one of the biggest clubs in South African football. However, earning regular playing time will not be easy, particularly with the competition for places becoming increasingly important as Sundowns pursue their targets this season.

The right-back position is one area attracting attention, especially with Khuliso Mudau currently sidelined through injury. Mudau has been an important player for Sundowns, and his absence could create an opportunity for Matuludi to demonstrate what he can offer the team.

Modise believes the new signing should approach the situation with the right mentality and make the most of the opportunity presented to him. With Mudau unavailable, Matuludi has a chance to put himself in contention and convince the technical team that he deserves a regular role.

However, competing at Sundowns requires more than simply being available when another player is injured. The club has high expectations, and every player must work hard in training and deliver consistent performances when given the chance.

Matuludi will need to show discipline in defence, contribute to the team's attacking play and demonstrate that he can handle the pressure associated with representing a club that regularly competes for major trophies.

Mudau's injury could open the door for the new signing, but it does not automatically guarantee him a permanent place in the starting line-up. The defender will have to prove himself to the coaching staff and take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way.

For Sundowns, having competition in the right-back position could also be beneficial. A strong squad gives the technical team more options when dealing with injuries, suspensions and a demanding fixture schedule.

The Brazilians are expected to remain competitive in domestic competitions while also pursuing success on the continental stage. Having reliable alternatives in every position could prove important as the season progresses.

Matuludi's arrival therefore presents an opportunity for both the player and the club. While he will be eager to establish himself, Sundowns will want him to adapt quickly and contribute whenever called upon.

Modise's advice highlights the importance of being ready when an opportunity arrives. With Mudau working his way back from injury, Matuludi has a chance to make a strong impression and increase competition for the right-back position.

Whether he can turn that opportunity into a regular starting role will depend on his performances, consistency and ability to meet the demands of playing for Mamelodi Sundowns.
