French Club Lorient Eye Rushwin Dortley As Kaizer Chiefs Face Potential Transfer Battle
JOHANNESBURG – Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley has reportedly attracted interest from French club FC Lorient, with the Ligue 1 side said to be considering an approach for the South African international ahead of the next transfer window.
According to information circulating in South African football circles, Lorient are monitoring the 24-year-old centre-back and could open discussions with Amakhosi in 2027 as they look to strengthen their defensive options.
The reported interest has sparked excitement among Chiefs supporters, particularly as Dortley is regarded as one of the club’s promising defensive talents. However, neither Lorient nor Kaizer Chiefs has publicly confirmed negotiations, a formal offer or an agreement. The possible move therefore remains a developing transfer story.
Dortley joined Kaizer Chiefs from Cape Town Spurs in 2024 and quickly made an impression with his composure on the ball, strong positioning and ability to contribute to the team’s build-up play. His performances also earned him opportunities with Bafana Bafana, further raising his profile in South African football.
The defender’s progress was interrupted by a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for an extended period. His recovery required patience from both the player and the club, with Chiefs’ technical team careful not to rush his return.
Dortley eventually made his comeback during Kaizer Chiefs’ Carling Knockout Cup encounter against TS Galaxy on 27 October 2026. Amakhosi secured a 3-0 victory, and the defender’s return provided a welcome boost to the squad after months away from competitive action.
His comeback has renewed attention on his potential and long-term future at Naturena. For a player who has already demonstrated his ability at domestic and international level, consistent game time will be important as he seeks to regain his best form.
Lorient’s reported interest could present an opportunity for Dortley to test himself in European football. A move to France would expose him to a different tactical environment and potentially provide another pathway to strengthen his international career.
The French club, however, would need to reach an agreement with Kaizer Chiefs if they decide to pursue the defender while he remains under contract. Any potential transfer would depend on several factors, including the club’s valuation, the player’s own ambitions and the timing of an official approach.
For Chiefs, Dortley’s importance extends beyond his defensive ability. His age, experience with Bafana Bafana and potential for further development make him a player the club may be reluctant to lose without careful consideration.
The reported interest also comes at a time when Amakhosi are working to build a competitive squad under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Keeping key players fit and strengthening the team in important positions will remain central to the club’s ambitions.
At this stage, supporters will have to wait for further developments. Lorient’s interest has yet to be confirmed by either club, and no transfer agreement has been announced.
