Former Premier Soccer League players Keletso Makgalwa and Anicet Oura contributed to a remarkable 6-1 win for Simba SC against Equatorial Guinean team 15 de Agosto in the CAF Champions League on Wednesday.
Coached by ex-Stellenbosch FC boss Steve Barker, the Tanzanian team traveled to Equatorial Guinea for the first leg of their second preliminary round tie after the match was postponed over the weekend.
Simba showcased their impressive form with a dominant performance, scoring six goals and positioning themselves strongly ahead of the return leg in Tanzania.
They opened the scoring just before half-time with Nathan Chilambo's goal in the 44th minute, giving Barker's side a 1-0 lead at the break following a competitive first half.
In the second half, Simba intensified their attack and quickly took control of the game. Elie Mpanzu scored to double their lead in the 56th minute, followed by Ibrahim Doumbia, who netted a third nine minutes later. With the visitors clearly in charge, Makgalwa added a goal in the 72nd minute, extending the lead to 4-0.
Makgalwa has been a positive addition since joining the Tanzanian club, contributing to a consistent run of form. Oura also made his presence felt by scoring Simba's fifth goal in the 82nd minute, highlighting the impact of players with backgrounds in South Africa's top league.
Doumbia rounded off the scoring with his second goal in the 88th minute, boosting Simba's lead to 6-0 and sealing the victory.
The home side managed to score a consolation goal in the 91st minute, but it did not affect the overall outcome.
As a result, Simba heads into Sunday's second leg with a five-goal cushion, aiming to finish the job in front of their home supporters in Tanzania.
This win marks Simba's 10th consecutive victory, reinforcing their strong performance in Africa's premier club competition. The contributions from Makgalwa and Oura will be a focal point ahead of the return match.
