Disaster Strikes Kaizer Chiefs_Star Player Banishes Himself From Squad After Shöcking Coach Betrayal

With little leeway for error upon his return to action following his dismissal in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel is confronted with yet another disciplinary challenge.

With his red card in Saturday, October 31, 2026's 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium, the Angolan international will sit out the next two matches for the club. While one of his more seasoned players serves a suspension, head coach Fernando da Cruz faces the additional challenge of finding a method to keep his defence stable in his absence.

Since Miguel will be returning with three yellow cards already accrued in domestic competition, his disciplinary record is garnering attention. The defender and the coaching staff must prioritise discipline because a second booking could result in a further suspension.

As time ran out in the Soweto Derby, the 30-year-old defender was sent off for a second yellow card. His dismissal occurred as Chiefs were trying to win a high-scoring match against their archrivals.

Pirates won 2-1 in the end, and Amakhosi were let down because they missed some scoring chances.

The Chiefs will need to carefully manage their defensive options in the upcoming matches, especially with Miguel's sending-off. Since his July 2024 transfer from Petro de Luanda, the defender has been an integral part of the team.

But he hasn't always been available when the squad needed him because of his history of disciplinary issues.

The Chiefs' Carling Knockout quarterfinal versus Siwelele FC and their Betway Premiership match against Chippa United are both reportedly Miguel's absences.

As the Chiefs look to bounce back from their disappointing derby loss, the remaining defenders will have even more responsibility without him.

The technical team now has another defensive option with Rushwin Dortley's availability. Still, it takes preparation to replace a seasoned center back, especially if the squad is aiming to be more consistent in all competitions.

Making sure the team's preparations and the defensive unit's confidence are unaffected by Miguel's suspension will be Da Cruz's top priority.

Concerns regarding Miguel's future at Naturena have been heightened by his disciplinary issues, and there have been rumours that talks regarding a potential contract extension are currently taking place.

The club may take his availability and performance into account when deciding what to do next, since his current deal is believed to be valid until June 2027.

The defender needs to show more discipline to prevent further needless suspensions, even though his experience is still valuable.

Whether Miguel can reclaim his starting position and assist the Chiefs in improving their defensive performances will be the focus once he is available again.

With three yellow cards under his belt, he'll need to tread carefully in every situation if he wants to stay out of suspension.

The significance of discipline during a demanding campaign is underscored by his situation for Kaizer Chiefs. In its pursuit of improved results in domestic competitions, the club cannot afford the needless loss of experienced players.
