Mandla Ncikazi has opened up about his emotional return to Golden Arrows, revealing that the Durban-based club still holds a special place in his heart despite spending the past five years at Orlando Pirates.

The newly appointed Abafana Bes'thende head coach is returning to familiar surroundings, where he previously enjoyed one of the most successful periods in the club's history.

During his first spell at Golden Arrows, Ncikazi guided the team to a remarkable fourth-place finish in the league, their highest-ever position in the South African top flight.

His return comes after an eventful period at Orlando Pirates, where he experienced success and created lasting memories during his time with the Soweto giants.

Speaking after Arrows suffered a 1-0 defeat to AmaZulu in the eThekwini Derby, Ncikazi reflected on his departure from Pirates and explained why he decided to embrace a new challenge.

He expressed gratitude to Orlando Pirates, describing it as a major institution that gave him unforgettable experiences and opportunities to achieve significant things in his coaching career.

Ncikazi explained that after reaching important milestones, he felt the need to challenge himself differently rather than simply continue along the same path.

He revealed that returning to Golden Arrows would allow him to work closely with younger players, develop talent and experience the pressure of rebuilding a competitive team.

According to the coach, he does not want to reach retirement without experiencing the demands and challenges that come with building a team again.

His return is expected to bring renewed expectations among Golden Arrows supporters, particularly given what he achieved during his previous spell.

Although his second stint has started with a derby defeat, Ncikazi will be hoping to rebuild the team's confidence and restore its competitiveness as the season progresses.

For the coach, returning to Golden Arrows represents more than another managerial appointment. It is an opportunity to reconnect with a club that remains close to his heart.
