Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart has received a major boost to her career after being nominated for the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women's Goalkeeper of the Year award. The announcement has sparked excitement among South African football supporters, who are celebrating the recognition of one of the country's leading female goalkeepers.
The prestigious award is among the most respected individual honours in African football. It recognises goalkeepers who have demonstrated outstanding performances, consistency and excellence throughout the season. Although a nomination does not guarantee victory, it places Swart among the continent's finest shot-stoppers.
Swart has already experienced football's biggest stages. She was part of the Banyana Banyana squad that represented South Africa at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France, marking the country's historic debut at the global tournament.
Since then, she has continued to play an important role in the national team's goalkeeping department, competing alongside other experienced players for a regular position in the starting lineup.
This is not Swart's first CAF recognition. In 2023, she was also nominated for the Women's Goalkeeper of the Year award alongside fellow South African international Andile Dlamini.
Her latest nomination highlights her continued presence among Africa's top goalkeepers and provides further encouragement for Banyana Banyana.
South African supporters will now be hoping that Swart can turn the nomination into a historic achievement by bringing home the prestigious continental award.
