Manqoba Mngqithi Finally Exposes Top Young Africans Star Who Got Him Sacked

South African football manager Manqoba Mngqithi has addressed circulating reports linking his sudden departure from Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC to an alleged conflict with star playmaker Stephane Aziz Ki, offering insight into the tactical tensions that defined his short tenure at the club.

Speaking during an interview on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified, Mngqithi sought to clarify the rumors surrounding his exit, which took place in October 2026 after roughly three months at the helm. Addressing speculation that his relationship with the Burkina Faso international had broken down over squad selection, the coach explained that the issue was not simply about refusing to play the midfielder. Instead, he suggested that Aziz Ki may have voiced reservations to the club’s board regarding how he fit into Mngqithi’s tactical philosophy. While Mngqithi stopped short of blaming the player directly for his dismissal, he acknowledged that key squad members often hold significant sway with management at top-tier continental clubs.

The abrupt termination of Mngqithi’s contract surprised many observers given his strong overall statistical performance. After joining from Mamelodi Sundowns, the veteran tactician delivered immediate silverware by capturing the Tanzanian Community Shield and successfully guiding Young Africans into the CAF Champions League group stages. Across 13 official fixtures in all competitions, his side compiled a commendable record of 10 wins, two draws, and just a single defeat.

However, domestic expectations at Young Africans allow for minimal error. Tensions escalated following a 2-1 loss to traditional rivals Simba SC, followed shortly by a frustrating goalless draw against TRA United. The dropped points left the reigning champions trailing Simba by five points in the league standings, generating intense media pressure and criticism from the club's executive leadership. While Young Africans announced his departure without publicly elaborating on any internal friction, Mngqithi's recent statements highlight the delicate balancing act coaches face when aligning system discipline with the preferences of established star players.
