Wandile Duba Has Kaizer Motaung Jr's Record in His Sights After Chiefs Hat-Trick

Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has made history with his impressive hat-trick against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup, raising hopes that the young forward could follow in the footsteps of the club's Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.

The 22-year-old delivered a remarkable performance on Tuesday evening at FNB Stadium, scoring all three goals as Amakhosi secured a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in their Round of 16 encounter. His second-half display helped Chiefs advance to the quarter-finals while providing a timely boost to the team's confidence.

Duba opened his account in the 48th minute before finding the back of the net again in the 62nd minute. He completed his hat-trick just four minutes later, finishing an outstanding 18-minute scoring spell that showcased his attacking ability and composure in front of goal.

According to information published by Kaizer Chiefs, Duba became the 24th player to score a hat-trick for the club since the beginning of the Premier Soccer League era in the 1996/97 season. He also made history as the first Chiefs player to score three goals in a single Carling Knockout Cup match.

His achievement is particularly important for a club that has gone several years without celebrating a similar individual performance. It could also mark a turning point for Duba as he seeks to establish himself as a regular contributor to the team's attacking ambitions.

However, another significant milestone remains within reach. Kaizer Motaung Jr was the last Chiefs player to score two hat-tricks in one season, achieving the feat during the 2006/07 campaign. He scored three goals against Maritzburg United before repeating the achievement against Bloemfontein Celtic.

Duba now has an opportunity to chase that remarkable record. With the season still underway, the young forward will need to maintain his form, take advantage of scoring opportunities and deliver consistent performances.

Chiefs supporters will be hoping his latest heroics represent the beginning of a prolific spell as Amakhosi pursue further success this season.
