Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Thulasizwe Mbuyane believes assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi could benefit from a new challenge if the club allows him to pursue an opportunity elsewhere.
Speculation about Ncikazi’s future has increased following his absence from the touchline during recent Pirates matches. There have also been rumours of possible tension between head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and members of his technical team, although no official confirmation of a fallout has been provided.
Ncikazi’s absence is reportedly linked to a knee injury that required surgery, leaving him dependent on crutches during his recovery. Nevertheless, Mbuyane told KickOff that the coach’s increased presence in the stands had caught his attention.
Although he admitted that he could not confirm whether there was a disagreement within the technical team, Mbuyane questioned the situation and suggested that certain developments were worth observing.
The former midfielder, who was part of Pirates during their successful double-treble era, described Ncikazi as an important figure who helps connect the head coach with the players.
Mbuyane also noted that another technical team member, whom he remembered as a video analyst, appeared to be taking on more responsibility for issuing instructions from the touchline.
Meanwhile, Ncikazi has been linked with a possible return to Golden Arrows amid reports that head coach Pitso Dladla is facing pressure following disappointing results. However, neither club has confirmed negotiations.
Ncikazi remained at Pirates after Ouaddou replaced Jose Riveiro, helping the team win the MTN8, Carling Knockout and Betway Premiership last season.
For now, Pirates have not confirmed any rift or decision regarding Ncikazi’s future, and his injury remains the stated explanation for his recent absence from the touchline.
