Marumo Gallants In Transfer Nightmare As Pirates Duo Daniel Msendami And Abdoulaye Mariko Face January Wait
According to reports, Marumo Gallants encountered a significant administrative setback when they failed to register Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko, two of their prominent acquisitions from Orlando Pirates, in time for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The club had hoped that adding the two players would help shore up the roster and boost performance during the challenging season, so this news comes as a huge disappointment.
On Tuesday, 3 November, journalist Lorenz Kohler of the iDiski Times reported that Gallants had neglected to finalize the registration processes for the Malian midfielder and the Zimbabwean international in time for the transfer deadline.
Both players are thus ineligible to play for the team at this time.
According to the source, the January transfer window is the only time the two can be registered.
Mariko and Msendami were loaned to Gallants for the season in September from Orlando Pirates.
At first glance, their signings seemed like a great fit for a club that was looking to improve its consistency and performance.
After playing for Gallants and then the Buccaneers, Zimbabwean international Msendami was back in his old stomping grounds. The team was hoping he would add a new dimension to their forward line with his speed, attacking movement, and experience.
Meanwhile, Mariko was added to bolster the midfield. It was thought that the 24-year-old Malian would provide Gallants with more options in the center of the field, thanks to his experience from his previous stint at Djoliba AC.
The club had made no secret of its desire to bolster its roster in preparation for a challenging season, and it had publicly welcomed the two players.
Nevertheless, the reported registration issue has postponed their expected contributions.
Gallants, who have been without consistency in the Betway Premiership, could not have gotten their timing worse.
After a rough start to the season in which they lost multiple games, the club finally won a league match last Friday, a thrilling 3-2 victory over Siwelele.
While the outcome was encouraging, the technical team will not be able to capitalize on the reinforcements acquired during the transfer window just yet due to the reported unavailability of Msendami and Mariko.
The club's transfer procedures are called into question by their persistent nonappearance.
At least for the time being, it seems like Gallants will have to carry on with the roster they have.
The club has their best chance to fix the problem and release the two Pirates loanees during the January registration period.
Orlando Pirates, meanwhile, will keep an eye on the development of their loaned players in the hopes that they will get more playing time.
Rather than spending months waiting for registration, the two footballers were supposed to assist Gallants in improving their performances, so the reported setback is especially annoying.
