Simo Dladla Will Step In as Interim Coach for Yanga After Mngqithi's Surprising Departure
South African football coach Simo Dladla is poised to assume the interim coaching role at Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans SC after the unexpected exit of Manqoba Mngqithi.
This change follows Yanga's decision to part ways with Mngqithi amid disappointing domestic performances that heightened the pressure on the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach. His departure was officially announced on Saturday night, October 24, abruptly ending his short tenure with the club.
Dladla, who previously served as an assistant to Mngqithi, is now tasked with offering temporary guidance as the Tanzanian champions look to regain stability and continue their pursuit of major titles.
His first challenge will be to prepare the team for a match against Mashujaa FC in the Tanzanian Premier League on Tuesday afternoon at the KMC Complex in Mwenge. This game provides an opportunity for the team to positively respond to the coaching shake-up and aim for a victory.
Mngqithi's Unexpected Exit
Mngqithi joined Yanga in July 2026 amidst high expectations, having established his reputation through extensive coaching experience in South African football, particularly his success with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Despite a promising beginning, the 55-year-old could not escape the repercussions of recent poor results.
Yanga recently experienced a 2-1 defeat to their rivals, Simba SC, followed by a goalless draw against TRA United, which left the defending champions trailing Simba by five points in the league standings.
Notably, Mngqithi's overall performance was impressive, achieving 10 wins, two draws, and just one loss in 13 competitive games, and successfully leading Yanga to the Tanzanian Community Shield and the CAF Champions League group stage.
However, the club's high expectations meant that recent league results ultimately led to his dismissal.
Dladla’s Immediate Challenge
Dladla must now ensure continuity within the coaching staff while keeping players focused during this transitional phase.
Ahead of the game against Mashujaa, the South African coach stressed the need for aggression, decisiveness, and capitalizing on scoring opportunities, highlighting his commitment to helping the team achieve positive outcomes.
Yanga is still in the race for domestic titles, but the points gap to Simba renders each upcoming match increasingly critical.
For Dladla, this interim role marks a pivotal moment in his coaching journey. Strong performances could enhance his reputation within the club, though Yanga's management is likely to explore long-term candidates for the head coach position.
With both domestic and continental goals in sight, the upcoming weeks are set to be vital for the Tanzanian giants.
All attention now shifts to Dladla as he strives to stabilize the team following Mngqithi's sudden exit and guide Yanga back on course in their campaign.
