Former Orlando Pirates star Innocent Chikoya believes rising midfielder Thapelo Mokobodi has the potential to secure a move abroad in the not-so-distant future, following his impressive emergence at the Soweto giants.
Chikoya has backed the young Pirates talent to eventually leave the Premier Soccer League, suggesting that his development and growing reputation could attract interest from clubs outside South Africa.
Mokobodi has emerged as one of the exciting prospects associated with Orlando Pirates, with his performances putting him among the young players attracting attention from supporters and football observers.
The midfielder’s development has also generated optimism about his long-term future, particularly as Pirates continue to identify and develop players capable of making an impact at the highest level.
Chikoya’s comments reflect his belief that Mokobodi possesses the qualities required to progress beyond South African football. According to the former Pirates star, the youngster could eventually become another example of a player using the PSL as a stepping stone towards a career in international football.
A move abroad would represent a significant milestone for Mokobodi, potentially giving him an opportunity to experience a different football environment, compete at a higher level and further develop his abilities.
However, securing a transfer to another league would also require consistency, discipline and continued improvement. The midfielder will need to maintain his performances and take advantage of the opportunities available to him at Orlando Pirates.
For the Buccaneers, Mokobodi’s emergence represents another positive development as the club continues to build a squad with promising young talents.
