AMAZULU EDGE GOLDEN ARROWS IN KZN DERBY AS USUTHU CLOSE IN ON ORLANDO PIRATES AT THE TOP
DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA — 31 OCTOBER 2026
AmaZulu have strengthened their position in the Betway Premiership title race after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over KwaZulu-Natal rivals Golden Arrows in an entertaining derby encounter at Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday evening.
The victory was particularly important for Arthur Zwane's side, who continued their impressive run of form by recording their fifth consecutive league victory and keeping themselves firmly in contention for the championship.
Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya proved to be the difference between the two teams, finding the back of the net in the 65th minute to send the home supporters into celebration.
The decisive moment arrived after Nkosikhona Radebe delivered an important pass into the attacking area, allowing Ngwenya to finish from inside the penalty box and give Usuthu a valuable advantage.
Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock before the interval, but neither managed to convert their chances as the first half ended goalless.
Golden Arrows attempted to respond after conceding, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. Their best opportunity came when Sede Dion struck the crossbar with a header, but AmaZulu managed to survive the pressure and protect their advantage until the final whistle.
The result represents another significant achievement for Zwane, whose team have emerged as one of the most exciting sides in the current Betway Premiership campaign.
AmaZulu have now collected maximum points from their last five league matches, demonstrating remarkable consistency at a crucial stage of the season.
More importantly, the victory keeps them in third position on the league standings, just three points behind leaders Orlando Pirates, leaving the door open for an even stronger challenge in the coming weeks.
The growing competition at the top means that AmaZulu can no longer be ignored when discussing potential title contenders.
Meanwhile, Golden Arrows will be disappointed with the outcome after failing to capitalise on their opportunities, suffering another setback in their league campaign.
For AmaZulu, however, the focus will now shift towards maintaining their winning momentum and putting further pressure on the teams above them.
With Zwane's men continuing to collect important victories, Usuthu supporters have every reason to believe that their team could become a serious contender for the Betway Premiership title this season.
