Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has responded to critics following his team's 2-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby on Saturday afternoon.
The Buccaneers secured an important victory at FNB Stadium, giving their supporters plenty of reasons to celebrate after another intense meeting between the two Soweto rivals.
Pirates came into the match under pressure to deliver a positive result, with questions and criticism surrounding the team's performances and approach. However, they managed to overcome their biggest rivals and collect all three points.
Yanela Mbuthuma and Tshepang Moremi scored for the Buccaneers, with both goals coming from assists by Thapelo Mokobodi. Chiefs managed to find the back of the net through Pule Mmodi, but their efforts were not enough to prevent defeat.
The match also produced a major talking point when Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel was sent off, leaving his team with ten players.
Following the final whistle, Ouaddou had a message for those who had questioned his team. The victory gave the Pirates coach an opportunity to address the criticism and highlight the importance of his players' response on the pitch.
For the Buccaneers, beating Kaizer Chiefs was about more than collecting three points. The Soweto Derby carries enormous importance for both sets of supporters, and winning such a high-profile fixture can provide a significant boost to the team's confidence.
Pirates also ended Chiefs' unbeaten league record, making the result even more significant for the club and its supporters.
The victory briefly took Orlando Pirates to the top of the Betway Premiership table before Mamelodi Sundowns reclaimed first place with a 4-1 win over Durban City later on Saturday night.
Ouaddou and his players will now be expected to build on the derby success as they continue their league campaign. The coach will hope that the performance serves as a foundation for greater consistency in the matches ahead.
For Pirates supporters, the victory over their biggest rivals was an important moment, while Ouaddou's response to the critics has added another talking point after an eventful Soweto Derby.
