Komphela found himself in a post-match confrontation with Bianchi in a tunnel in Lubango, Angola, on Sunday, following a scoreless draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round clash.
Reports indicate that Bianchi was taken to the hospital after the altercation, while video clips of the incident began to circulate on social media the following day.
Ahead of the crucial second leg, Cardoso remarked that the situation has garnered more attention than it deserves, affirming that the relationship between the two clubs is still strong.
“Sometimes minor issues can escalate if given too much focus, and I believe what occurred has drawn more attention than necessary,” he stated.
“We were welcomed warmly in Angola, and the relations between the clubs have been excellent. Football is a passionate sport, and emotions can sometimes run high. However, this doesn’t mean that there is a rift; it’s just a case of feelings getting the best of individuals.
“We have already moved beyond that, and I am confident Friday’s game will be a splendid one, with mutual respect from both sides. We will extend our hospitality to the Wiliete fans, just as we hope our supporters will do. I also had a constructive discussion with their coach prior to the last match, and I trust we will communicate just as openly again.
“There will be no added tension between the teams. The contest should be on the field, where we compete and showcase our football skills. We have overcome everything, so let’s not blow a minor issue out of proportion.”
Sundowns and Wiliete will face each other once more on Friday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria for the crucial second leg, with a spot in the CAF Champions League group stage on the line.
The team that prevails over the two legs will move on to the group stage, while the losing team will be eliminated from the tournament.
