Orlando Pirates produced another dominant display to thump Milford 3-0 and advance to the Carling Knockout quarterfinal here on Tuesday.

A brace by Tshepang Moremi and another goal by Thapelo Mokobodi were enough to see the Buccaneers get their defence off this trophy off to a perfect start.

The comfortable win ensured they will go into the Soweto derby match against Kaizer Chiefs with assured scoring form, having netted seven goals in their last two matches without conceding.

This match was a repeat of their league fixture where the Buccaneers won 2-0 at the same venue early this season. Since then, the Stallions settled in well in their debut season and stretched their unbeaten streak to four matches with a 1-0 win over Golden Arrows in their last match at the weekend.

Only Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns had managed to defeat the newbies this season.

The home side pressed aggressively and Milford didn’t have answers and were forced to commit errors.

Pirates’ early dominance paid off in the 15th minute when Mokobodi was sent through on goal by Moremi to score his second goal for the club by latching onto a through ball and calmly slotting past goalkeeper Siphamandla Hleza.

It took some time for Milford to get into the game and started to threaten, but the Buccaneers defence was up to the challenge.

As Milford were starting to find their feet, the hosts doubled the lead 10 minutes before the interval via Moremi after he did well to beat an offside trap and rounded off goalkeeper Hleza before firing in from a tight angle.

There was enough time for the hosts to net their third goal before the interval as Moremi completed his brace.

Pirates now head into the derby as clear favourites because their defence has been breached just once in the league this season.
