The Chiefs, who faced a defeat in the first leg against Zambian team Red Arrows in Ndola, were eliminated 3-2 on penalties in the return leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening.
“In light of our unfortunate outcome in the CAF Confederation Cup, we comprehend and empathize with the disappointment experienced by our supporters, players, staff, and all stakeholders associated with Kaizer Chiefs,” Motaung Jr stated.
“Competing at an international level comes with elevated expectations, and when the results fall short of these expectations, it’s understandable that feelings of frustration and self-reflection arise.
“In times like these, it is crucial to keep everything in perspective and remain focused on the long-term vision we have set for the club. Success in football is seldom determined by a single match or tournament.
“Success is cultivated through consistency, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to a well-defined sporting strategy.”
The Chiefs have now gone five matches without a win across all competitions and will aim to change their luck when they face TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
Despite the unsatisfactory results, Motaung Jr reiterated the club’s faith in head coach Fernando da Cruz and his technical team.
“As a club, we want to reaffirm our unconditional support for the head coach and the entire technical staff,” he remarked.
“We have complete trust in their abilities as they implement a football philosophy and development path that we believe will yield lasting success.
“Their dedication, professionalism, and effort to enhance the team on a daily basis are commendable. The team is giving their all in every match to maintain a high level of performance, and on Friday, despite the outcome and injury challenges, that competitive spirit was evident on the field.
“We have made significant advancements in vital areas of our sporting project, and while setbacks are an inevitable part of any ambitious endeavor, they do not sway our commitment to the direction we are heading.
“We continue to align ourselves with our objectives, our playing identity, and our long-term success plan, both domestically and internationally.
“Our duty is to not be swayed solely by the emotions surrounding a negative result but to remain guided by careful evaluation, stability, and strategic planning. We will persist in assessing performances honestly, learning from our experiences, and making the improvements necessary for ongoing growth and competitiveness.”
Motaung Jr also recognized the disappointment among the club’s supporters, urging them to stay united behind the team as the Chiefs strive to navigate through these challenging times.
“To our supporters, we understand your displeasure and appreciate your unwavering passion and support,” he concluded.
“The standards at this institution remain as high as ever, and everyone within the football department is dedicated to upholding them.
“Now is the time for unity, not division. We believe in the efforts being made, in those who are leading that effort, and we have faith that the foundations being established today will bring the success our supporters rightfully deserve.
“We will move forward together with determination, accountability, and confidence for the future.”
