Lisandro Martinez Set to Join Barcelona on Free Transfer as Man Utd Departure Looms in Summer

BARCELONA is reportedly interested in signing Lisandro Martinez on a free transfer next summer.

The 28-year-old defender’s contract with Manchester United is set to expire next summer, leaving his future at the club uncertain.

Last week, Martinez expressed his frustration with the management of the club, suggesting that they failed to fully utilize the transfer window after finishing third in the Premier League last season.

Although he later apologized to club officials for his remarks, it appears likely that he will be leaving.

If he does not accept a contract renewal, the defender will be eligible as a free agent once the season ends.

Spanish publication El Desmarque reports that Barcelona might be interested in securing his signature.

The LaLiga club is reportedly considering a move before the year concludes to prevent United from activating a 12-month extension clause in his contract.

Additionally, Barcelona could negotiate a pre-contract with Martinez starting January.

Given their financial constraints, Barca executives would welcome the opportunity to acquire a player of the Argentine international’s caliber without paying a transfer fee.

However, if a contract extension takes place, it will come at a cost.

Martinez joined United for £57 million from Ajax in 2022 and has since made 118 appearances for the club.

The Red Devils currently sit 13th in the Premier League table, having earned seven points from seven matches.

Their next challenge will be against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
