The Roxborough United U9 Avalanche Black squeaked by the Colonial Cosmos Black 2-1 in an Inter County Soccer League contest played at Pachella Field.

After being knotted 1-1 at halftime on goals by the Avalanche’s Morgan Dougherty and the Cosmos’ Corrine Malloy, the home team was able to pull ahead as Dougherty broke free to score her second goal of the match.

That score eventually held up as both evenly-matched squads battled to a draw the rest of the way.

Goals were hard to come by as both teams played solid defense and whatever slipped through the cracks was gobbled up by superior net play at both ends of the field.

Colonial goalies Allie Minkus and Julia DeMaio and the Avalanche’s Tessa McMonagle were cat-quick in pouncing on just about everything that came their way.

Both teams exhibited well-executed passes and superior field intelligence for their age which can be directly attributed to solid coaching in the lasses’ developmental years.

A tip of the cap to the Roxborough crew of Mike Collins, Sean Deiter, Amber Filewicz, and Brian Convery as well as Colonial’s Bob Minkus and Steve Malloy forrunning top-notch instructional programs that will surely benefit their players as they advance in the years ahead.
