Liverpool fans convinced 'absolute liability' should never play for the club again after Fenerbahce nightmare
Liverpool fans convinced 'absolute liability' should never play for the club again after Fenerbahce nightmare

Liverpool fans have singled out one player for his disastrous performance after they suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Fenerbahce in the Champions League.

The Reds entered this showdown with three wins from as many games in the competition, and they threatened to make it four in the 25th minute when 19-year-old Trey Nyoni became the club's second-youngest scorer in the Champions League with a superbly taken volley.

Liverpool's lead was instantly pegged back four minutes later when Mason Greenwood's deflected free kick wrong-footed Alisson. Alexander Isak then came off the bench in the 66th minute to score what many thought would have been the winning goal, but the visitors capitulated late on. Archie Brown equalised in the 73rd minute before assisting Vedat Muriqi moments later to condemn Iraola to his first European defeat.

Liverpool fans think Kostas Tsimikas should never play for the club again

Andoni Iraola's men produced an incredibly disjointed performance against Fenerbahce, and several players produced a woeful performance.

One of those was left-back Kostas Tsimikas, who made his third start in the competition after assisting twice against LASK and once last time out in a 4-3 win over Villarreal.

Iraola has chosen to use the Greek international in European competition to rest first-choice left-back Milos Kerkez; however, the Spaniard may reconsider that plan after watching Tsimikas struggle against Fenerbahce.

The 30-year-old was run ragged by Greenwood on the left and was fortunate not to concede a penalty on the Englishman after blatantly pushing him over in the box midway through the first half.

He also made zero tackles, completed zero dribbles, and lost possession eight times during his 76 minutes on the pitch before being substituted for Kerkez, and Liverpool fans were left furious with his performance.

"Tsimikas is an absolute liability. He’s only in red because we couldn’t get a fee for him," one person wrote.

"Tsimikas couldn’t get a game for Roma last season, yet we thought he was good enough to come back and play regular minutes for us. Give me strength," a second wrote.

Others even said that the Greek full-back should never play for the club again and were disappointed that Andy Robertson was offloaded instead of him.

"Tsimikas should never pull a red shirt on again. We HAVE to sign a left back in January," a third demanded, while another agreed: "Tsimikas and Gomez should never again play for Liverpool. Both are horrific."

"Let Robertson go to keep Tsimikas. Absolutely terrible player," a fifth posted.
