Italian racing driver Kimi Antonelli has made Formula 1 history, but did you know the newly-crowned world champion previously partied with South African DJ Shimza?
The 20-year-old Mercedes driver secured the 2026 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship on Sunday, 1 November, after finishing third at the Mexico City Grand Prix in Mexico.
The race took place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, where Antonelli made history as the youngest-ever Formula 1 World Drivers’ Champion.
However, before celebrating his major achievement, the young racing star enjoyed a night out with Shimza in Italy earlier this year.
In July 2026, Antonelli attended an event at Phi Beach in Baja Sardinia, Italy, where South African DJ Shimza performed.
The DJ and producer took to the decks at the popular beach club on 28 July 2026.
Shimza has continued to attract international audiences with his Afro-house, Afro-tech and tech-house-inspired sets.
His international profile has also grown through his Shimza & Co event series in Ibiza.
Antonelli’s championship victory marks a major milestone in his racing career.
After making his Formula 1 debut in 2025, the Mercedes driver has already collected nine Grand Prix victories. His wins include races in China, Belgium, Spain and his home race at Monza during the 2026 season.
He also became the first Italian driver to win the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship since Alberto Ascari in 1953.
Meanwhile, the South African DJ has also had a busy year with several international music milestones.
On 19 June 2026, Shimza released his three-track Sunset in Pretoria EP through his record label, Kunye.
The project features three tracks inspired by his optimism, self-belief and love for music.
Shimza also welcomed South African singer Tyla for the closing party of his eight-week Shimza & Co residency at Pacha Ibiza on 18 June 2026.
The performance marked another international moment for the DJ, who continues to take South African electronic music to audiences around the world.
