Ssenyondo warns KCCA against complacency after sixth straight win
Brian Ssenyondo |

KCCA head coach Brian Ssenyondo has challenged his players to maintain their winning momentum and raise their performance levels after extending their Uganda Premier League winning streak to six games.

The Kasasiro Boys continued their impressive run with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Maroons at the Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday.

Despite the convincing scoreline, Ssenyondo believes his side could have performed better, particularly in the first half, when he felt some midfielders prioritised getting on the scoresheet instead of creating opportunities for their teammates.

“I think we would have done better. We had the opponent all around. We shall take the result, but we could have done better. I think we would have done better in the first half. Instead of creating, the midfielders preferred getting on the scoresheet. However, in the second half, we improved,” Ssenyondo said after the game.

The KCCA tactician was, however, pleased with the contribution of his substitutes, whom he believes have become an important part of the team’s success.

“We talked to the boys and told them that the team that stays on the bench is supposed to win us games. We are happy that in the recent games they have really done that,” he added.

KCCA’s six successive victories underline their growing consistency, but Ssenyondo insists the winning run should not make the players complacent, given the club’s ambitions.

He emphasised that championship-winning teams must have several match-winners, especially when opponents focus on neutralising their key players.

“If you want to be a champion like we are, anyone can win you a game while others will be marked. You can create space for others,” he explained.

While acknowledging the importance of the winning streak, Ssenyondo believes it is only what is expected of a club of KCCA’s stature and has urged his players to keep pushing for more.

“The run makes us happy, but it does not excite us because we are a big team that should be winning all games. I know this is football, but we need to keep pushing so that we extend the run,” he concluded.

The result further strengthens KCCA’s momentum as they continue their pursuit of success in the Uganda Premier League.
