Byekwaso rallies under-pressure Express: “We must earn our respect back” ahead of Blacks Power clash

Overview:

Express’ medical room has cleared up significantly for the clash, with midfielder Nicholas Jjonga being the only notable absentee as he continues his recovery from injury. The rest of the squad is fully fit and available for selection.

Express FC head coach Morley Byekwaso has issued a rallying cry to his squad, demanding they reclaim the club’s lost dignity when they host a stubborn Blacks Power side under the floodlights at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

The Red Eagles head into the fixture under intense scrutiny following a disastrous seven-game winless streak that has seen them slide dangerously down the table. Byekwaso, frankly addressing the slump, admitted the sleeping giants have lost their competitive edge but insists the narrative must change immediately.

“We must rediscover the form and performances we had in the opening matches and earn our respect back,” Byekwaso lamented ahead of the match. “The game against Blacks Power is a must-win. They are a stubborn side who play aggressively and are above us on the table, but we must be at our best.”

Mugerwa Defiant Despite Recent Slip

On the opposing bench, Blacks Power tactician Simon Peter Mugerwa remains unfazed by his side’s recent 1-0 defeat to NEC. Despite the setback, Mugerwa feels his team has the mental fortitude to frustrate Express on their own turf.

“I think we had a good game against NEC but were unlucky to lose,” Mugerwa stated. “However, that is behind us now and we are motivated to give our best against a big club like Express.”

Blacks Power currently sit comfortably in 7th place with 13 points, while a struggling Express FC find themselves hovering just above the drop zone in 14th with a mere 8 points.
