SC Villa moved top of the Uganda Premier League table after overcoming Lugazi on Saturday in Najjembe. The Jogoos claimed a 2-1 win on the road to bounce back to winning ways.
It should be noted that Villa came into today’s game on the back of a goalless draw at home to Blacks Power.
The coach reacted by making one change from the team that started in the last outing, with Brian Mato replacing Andrew Okumu at right back.
The visitors took an early lead through lanky forward Frank Sebuufu, who tucked home in the fourth minute. Goalkeeper Allan Batali Igama fumbled with Patrick Kakande’s cross, and Sebuufu was well placed to tap the ball into the back of the net.
John Asiimwe doubled SC Villa’s lead in the 56th minute, heading home when Ibrahim Kasirye delivered a well-weighted cross.
Livingstone Mulondo, who had replaced Louis Anguti in the 17th minute, got the consolation for the hosts in the 89th minute. Frank Mulimi’s powerful free kick was initially saved by goalkeeper David Lukwago, ricocheted off the crossbar, but Mulondo was fast enough to tap home.
There was an initial disagreement between centre referee Henry Musisi and second assistant Hakim Lubwama, with the latter raising his flag for offside. However, after a chat between the two, the goal eventually stood.
The result means SC Villa go top on 21 points with their next game away to BUL on Tuesday next week. On the other hand, Lugazi remain 13th on 8 points and visit Vipers next.
