Tim Welch believes Tommy McMillen might be in a league of his own when it comes to financial success.

Sean O’Malley was surprised to not hear Petr Yan say his name after successfully defending the UFC bantamweight title this past weekend.

O’Malley believes this rematch will be the biggest fight in the history of the division, and he has a point considering their history.

While ‘Suga’ remains one of the top names on the promotion’s roster, it is his teammate that has emerged as one of the sport’s biggest rising stars this year.

Tim Welch believes Tommy McMillen is probably earning more than anyone else has after three UFC fights

In September, Tommy McMillen overcame adversity to beat Marwan Rahiki and continue his undefeated run inside the Octagon with his third win.

Having earned three bonuses since making his debut in April, you don’t have to look far to find people highlighting McMillen’s star potential.

His coach recently revealed that he’s already receiving the kind of money that backs up this praise.

Tim Welch recently commented on the remarkable rise McMillen has had in the featherweight division this year.

He believes that Tommy ‘Gun’ may have already set himself apart in terms of how much he’s earning just three fights into his UFC career.

“He’s making serious, serious money,” Welch said on The Ariel Helwani Show. “Probably more money now than any UFC fighter after their third fight, probably ever. He’s in that bracket. It’s actually insane, and I’ve never seen something like it.”

Welch also being Sean O’Malley’s coach led to the former bantamweight champion being brought up as a comparison point.

While ‘Suga’ also quickly emerged as one of the UFC’s top rising stars when he arrived in 2017, McMillen has eclipsed him by some distance when you put their careers next to each other.

“I mean after a third fight, way more. Way more,” Welch replied when asked if McMillen is earning more than O’Malley did.

Journalist John S. Nash pointed out in a response to Welch’s comments that Holly Holm made $1.1 million to fight Ronda Rousey in 2015, which was her third fight in the promotion.

Tim Welch doesn’t have an issue with Tommy McMillen not pushing into the rankings

Tommy McMillen’s incredibly aggressive style always produces entertaining fights but there are questions as to how effective it would be against the top fighters in the division.

Tim Welch would like to see his fighter get a matchup that allows him to push his way into the featherweight rankings.

At the same time, with how much McMillen is earning, his coach has no issue with him continuing to keep this momentum going.

“I wouldn’t mind that but I also wouldn’t mind him still fighting non-ranked guys and just stacking the cheddar,” Welch said. “When your brand deals are as big as his, it’s like, let him stack, baby.”
