Jake "The Snake" Roberts says he has re-signed with WWE after leaving AEW: "Re-signed with WWE, doing some stuff for them and just enjoying life, man."
Jake “The Snake” Roberts says he has re-signed with WWE.
The WWE Hall of Famer was a guest on Saturday’s Nick Club Wrestling Happy Hour with host Nick Teodoro. When asked what he has been up to recently, Roberts said he is no longer with AEW and is back with WWE.
“Staying busy. Not in AEW anymore. Re-signed with WWE, doing some stuff for them and just enjoying life, man,” Roberts said.
He did not say what his work with WWE involves.
Roberts confirmed in July that he was no longer with AEW, where he had worked since 2020, mostly as the manager of Lance Archer. Later that month, he made his first official WWE appearance in several years, signing autographs and taking photos with fans at the SummerSlam Takeover event at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
Asked about the differences between WWE and AEW, Roberts pointed to creative.
“Creative, number one. No doubt. Tony Khan needs to loosen up the reins a little bit,” Roberts said. “He’s got a good product. He’s got a lot of talent in there. I think his talent could be used better.”
Roberts said he loved working for Khan and called him “a sweet guy.”
He also said Archer has been overlooked.
“He has never gotten the break he deserves. He really hasn’t. It’s a damn shame,” Roberts said.
Asked if anyone in wrestling today reminds him of himself, Roberts named the late Bray Wyatt, who died in August 2023, and Randy Orton.
Roberts also explained why he never yelled in his promos.
“One of the things was I got a knee drop to my throat when I first started wrestling and it crushed my voice box. So, I can’t scream. I can’t holler. If I try, nothing comes out,” he said. “And I just didn’t like doing those type of interviews. It didn’t seem real. So, I didn’t do it.”
On the many versions of the DDT today, Roberts said he sticks with the original.
“You got to go back to the classic one that still works. If I did it, you didn’t get up. So, I’ll stick with mine,” he said.
