LeBron James announces new golf center for kids in Ohio
LeBron James attempts to break 100 on a California golf course for a $1 million donation to his Akron charity.

LeBron James has announced plans for a new kids-centered golf center in Akron.

The announcement came in a new YouTube video posted to James' new channel that highlights his golf journey and new attempt to break 100 on a California golf course.

And this wasn't just any normal round.

At stake was a $1 million donation to his namesake charity in Akron.

If James' Chief of Staff Randy Mims broke 100 and beat him at the Angels National Golf Club in Sunland, California, the donation to the LeBron James Family Foundation would be $1.5 million.

Spoiler alert: neither James nor Mims broke 100, but the NBA star and Mims pledged to keep practicing and playing to break the milestone and land the anonymous donation for his LeBron James Family Foundation charity that works to help Akron school kids stay on a path to high school and college diplomas.

"It's not over," James said after it was clear they would not win the challenge. "It's over today, but the challenge continues. Y'all stick with us through the pain and suffering."

In the hour-long video, James talks a lot about growing up in Akron and the foundation's work to help kids and their families navigate the challenges of life.

He also talks about how golf − like life −takes hard work, commitment and lots and lots of practice.

And he says the new golf center the Foundation is planning to open near the House Three Thirty on West Market Street will be a place for kids to have the opportunity to try a new sport and learn patience.

“Being a Black kid growing up in Akron, we didn’t feel like, you know, the access to the game of golf was provided for us,” James said in the video.

Foundation officials say more details will be released in the coming months.

The announcement of the golf center that James calls the Strive Fore Greatness Golf Center comes after the Foundation has announced plans for the LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational to be held next summer at the Firestone Country Club.

The Invitational is in partnership with the PGA and will spotlight underrepresented aspiring golfers.

The inaugural event is slated for next July 6-7 at Firestone that this year hosted its final Kaulig Companies Championship, which is moving to Newport Beach, California.

Although the "Just a Kid from Akron" now wears a Philadelphia 76ers uniform, he reminded viewers that he has not forgotten his humble roots and the city he still considers home.

"My community, my old community, King James is still here."
