Terry Hee and Gloria Widjaja claim runner-up at Indonesia Masters

Singaporean doubles player Terry Hee and Indonesian partner Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja secured a runner-up finish at the Polytron Indonesia Masters Super 100 tournament on Sunday, October 25, after advancing through the main draw to reach the final. The tournament marked the pair’s second competition since reuniting earlier in the month following a brief split earlier in the year.

Runner-Up Finish at the Indonesia Masters

Seeded sixth in the tournament, Hee and Widjaja reached the title match before falling to the fourth-seeded Chinese pair of Li Hongyi and Huang Kexin with a score of 21–15, 5–21, 10–21. The result lifts the cross-border scratch pair to 75th in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) world rankings, calculated using ranking points from each team’s last 10 tournaments, with their current tally reflecting five played events together.

Hee and Widjaja Debut and Compete in All England Open

The pair originally teamed up in January, making their debut at the Indonesia Masters Super 500 event where they reached the quarterfinals. They subsequently competed in the Thailand Masters and the German Open, reaching the round of 16 and the semifinals respectively. The duo then earned a spot in the prestigious All England Open Super 1000 tournament, where they faced world number one pair Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping in the opening round, losing 1–2. Following the All England tournament, Widjaja’s original partner, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto, returned from injury, leading to the conclusion of the partnership.

Hee Withdraws from Tournaments After Sustaining Back Injury

Reuniting after more than half a year apart, Hee and Widjaja entered the Indonesia Masters as the sixth seeds. Reflecting on the renewed partnership, Hee told the Lianhe Zaobao that he believes they retain untapped potential to challenge higher-ranked opponents. However, Hee sustained a back injury during the tournament, forcing him to withdraw from the upcoming Korea Masters and Kumamoto Masters. According to tournament plans, the pair’s next scheduled competitive appearance will be at the 2027 Malaysia Open.

Following the final, Widjaja shared her thoughts on social media, expressing pride in the team’s journey and thanking her partner for persevering through physical pain until the conclusion of the tournament.
