A weekend dominated by the Soweto Derby saw plenty of action in the Betway Premiership, with Matchdays 9 and 10 producing 20 goals across eight matches played on Friday and Saturday.

Marumo Gallants recorded their first victory of the 2026/27 season after edging struggling Siwelele 3-2 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg on Friday night.

It was the third league meeting between the sides, with Gallants finally recording their first win against the Mangaung-based outfit, who remain winless against teams in the bottom five.

Samkele Sihlali opened the scoring for Gallants in the seventh minute, registering his first goal of the season and the club’s first-ever goal against Siwelele. Raymond Makhuvele equalised for the visitors in the 26th minute, scoring on his debut, before Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo restored

Gallants’ advantage seven minutes later.

Sihlali completed his brace shortly after the restart, making it 3-1 in the 50th minute. Vincent Pule pulled one back for Siwelele five minutes later, but Gallants held on for all three points.

Gallants finished the match with 18 shots at goal compared to Siwelele's seven.

PIRATES CLAIM SOWETO DERBY BRAGGING RIGHTS

Saturday’s Soweto Derby dominated the headlines as Orlando Pirates took on Kaizer Chiefs in front of a packed FNB Stadium.

The two Soweto giants were meeting for the 186th time in official matches across all competitions, with Pirates emerging 2-1 winners to register their 51st derby victory.

Across 61 PSL-era league meetings, the rivalry remains finely balanced, with both sides having recorded 18 victories each, while 25 encounters have ended in draws.

The defeat marked Chiefs’ first league loss of the season. Amakhosi had gone unbeaten in their opening eight league matches for the first time since the 2015/16 campaign. Interestingly, that unbeaten run also came to an end against Pirates on 31 October.

Yanela Mbuthuma opened the scoring for the Buccaneers in the 24th minute, with his effort taking a deflection off Thabo Molisane. It was Mbuthuma’s first Soweto Derby goal and his second league goal of the campaign.

Pule Mmodi restored parity for Chiefs in the 30th minute, registering his league goal of the season.

However, Tshepang Moremi had the final say, scoring Pirates’ second goal to secure a 2-1 victory and ensure the Buccaneers walked away with the bragging rights.

MILFORD CONTINUE IMPRESSIVE HOME FORM

Milford FC registered a 1-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in their first-ever meeting.

Imraan Jones sealed the victory with a second goal in the 83rd minute, scoring his first goal of the campaign.

Stellenbosch completed 399 passes compared to Chippa’s 256, but were unable to find the back of the net.

AMAZULU EDGE ARROWS AS ZWANE CONTINUES WINNING RUN

AmaZulu claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows in the 39th league meeting between the sides since their first encounter in the 2001/02 season.

The result continued an impressive run for AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane, who has now won five successive league matches as a coach for the first time. He has also recorded six consecutive victories in open play across all competitions.

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya proved to be the difference, breaking the deadlock in the 64th minute. The striker’s goal was his ninth of the season, keeping him at the top of the league’s scoring charts.

POLOKWANE AND TS GALAXY SHARE THE SPOILS

Polokwane City and TS Galaxy played out a goalless draw at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

It was the seventh league meeting between the sides, with the result marking their fourth draw.

Three of those four stalemates have come with Polokwane City playing at home.

The result extended TS Galaxy’s winless run to five matches.

KRUGER UNITED STUN RICHARDS BAY

Richards Bay suffered another setback after going down 3-1 to newly promoted Kruger United on Saturday evening.

Mlungisi Zwane put the result beyond doubt with a third goal in second-half stoppage time, completing an impressive victory for the newly promoted side.

SUNDOWNS RUN RIOT AGAINST DURBAN CITY

Mamelodi Sundowns recorded their biggest victory over Durban City, scoring four goals against the

KwaZulu-Natal outfit for the first time in a 4-1 triumph.

The Brazilians have now won all three of their league meetings against Durban City.

The victory also extended Sundowns’ unbeaten start to the league season to 10 matches, a feat they last achieved in the 2023/24 campaign, when they went on to record a 29-match unbeaten league run.

Thabang Matuludi opened the scoring in the 34th minute, registering his first goal for Sundowns.

He doubled the advantage in the 66th minute to complete his brace.

Iqraam Rayners added a third in the 80th minute, taking his league tally to four goals this season.
