Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 0-0 draw by Egyptian hosts FC Masar in their opening CAF Women’s Champions League 2026 Group A encounter on Sunday.
The South African giants were unable to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Masar at the 2024 edition of the competition, as the Egyptian side once again proved a difficult opponent.
Sundowns, champions in 2021 and 2023, entered the tournament determined to make a winning start to their campaign as they chase a third continental title.
However, neither side could find the breakthrough at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, with the points shared.
The result followed another goalless draw between Morocco’s FUS Rabat and Cameroon’s Lekié Football Filles earlier in the day.
Consequently, all four teams in Group A are level on one point, with identical goal differences after the opening round of fixtures.
The results leave the group finely poised, with the next round of matches set to be crucial as the teams battle for the two available semi-final places.
The draw also extends FC Masar’s unbeaten record against Sundowns in the competition, following their victory over the South Africans in 2024.
Sundowns will now look to secure their first win of the tournament as they resume their quest for continental honours, having missed the 2025 edition.
