Byekwaso under pressure as Express search for vital win away at Ntugasaze
Express head coach Morley Byekwaso

Overview:

Since their promising 2-0 victory over KCCA FC on matchday two, Morley Byekwaso’s side has gone completely cold, enduring a six-match winless streak that has severely dented the squad's morale.

Express FC travel to the Kira Police Arena in Kamwokya on Sunday to face newly promoted Ntugasaze, knowing that anything less than three points will deepen the crisis surrounding the seven-time Uganda Premier League champions.

The Red Eagles find themselves in the unfamiliar territory of the relegation zone, sitting 15th in the standings with a meager seven points from eight matches. Since their promising 2-0 victory over KCCA FC on matchday two, Morley Byekwaso’s side has gone completely cold, enduring a six-match winless streak that has severely dented the squad’s morale.

Head coach Byekwaso admitted that the poor run of form has taken a psychological toll on his youthful team, but he remains confident that they can reverse their fortunes today.

“We have prepared well as usual and we are hopeful of getting maximum points,” Byekwaso stated ahead of the clash. “The lads are good but look to have lost a bit of confidence. As coaches, it is our duty to restore that, and I believe we shall win and kick-start a decent run.”

Express will have to navigate the fixture without midfield gem Nicholas Jjonga, who remains sidelined after picking up an injury during their recent goalless draw against Lugazi FC. The rest of the squad is fully fit and available for selection.

The hosts, Ntugasaze, enter the contest equally desperate for a lifeline. Lovingly known as “The Brewers,” the newly promoted side has struggled to adjust to topflight football, gathering just three points so far. Currently sitting second from the bottom of the table—four points behind Express—Ntugasaze will be looking for an immediate response following a humiliating 5-1 defeat in their last outing against NEC.

With both teams trapped at the bottom end of the table, the fixture is a must-win for both camps as they fight to salvage their seasons.

Elsewhere in the League:
In today’s other fixture, Maroons FC will host winless Kigezi HomeBoyz at the Mutesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku. Both afternoon matches are scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM
